Sacred Heart

I started this paint a couple weekends ago. It has taken some time to complete. Between caring for a family member after surgery, ER visits, and a death in the family, I had little time to spare. So, with five minutes here and ten minutes there, it is finally finished.

This was done following Cinnamon Cooney’s “Sacred Heart” tutorial on YouTube. 

I started by tracing the image using blue chalk onto a canvas board. Then, I traced all the lines with black paint plus all the canvas around the design.

Next, I just had fun painting in the design. I also started on the stones for the wall.

The stones were the hardest part for me. I didn’t have the same colors as Cinnamon Cooney so I had to adjust for the colors I had. I finished the painting by redefining the black lines.

Finishing this painting helped me cope with the loss of my cousin, Gene. I’m dedicating this painting to him.

Watercolor Feather!

I followed Lindsay Weirich’s YouTube video tutorial on Watercoloring a realistic Blue Jay feather. (You can CLICK HERE to go directly to her tutorial.) I’ve been watching and painting along with some of her tutorials for a while now, however everything seemed to “click” with this tutorial. I’m loving the finished piece!

I used a water brush which was quite a bit larger than the brush Lindsay used, but the technique still worked really well. I’m really hoping she does more of these realistic paintings along with all the other wonderful paintings she does.

Fall Waterfall Painting!

I can’t believe it has been so long since my last post! Things have been pretty hectic at home and finding time to do creative things went by the wayside. Now the kids are back in school and things have settled. Now onto my latest.

I did this Fall Waterfall acrylic painting following The Art Sherpa-Cinnamon Cooney‘s instructional video. This was done using a palette knife. I didn’t have the same palette knives as Cinnamon. I used what I had on hand, and this is the result…

I made many mistakes on my first palette knife painting journey, but I really enjoyed the process and learning along the way. 

I’m so glad I found The Art Sherpa’s video’s on YouTube. She makes learning to paint fun and easy! Creating is my happy space and Cinnamon has expanded the possibilities for me.

Card for Bestie!

I made a birthday card for my Besty! I use the Simon says stamp August 2016 Simon says stamp card kit. 

I started off with using some scrap white card stock and using the die from the kit I cut out the star using my Cuttlebug. Using my scissors I fussy-cut the out the star. I brushed some ModPodge over the star and sprinkled on a full coverage of red glitter, then set it aside to dry.

While waiting for the star to dry, I worked on the card panel. I used one of the white Tim Holtz “Motif Resist” papers in the kit and cut one to size 4 x 5.25. Using the Tim Holtz Distress Ink “Chipped Sapphire” included in the kit, I blended the color dark to light with a little dark on all the edges. 

I stamped one of the sentiments from the stamp set in the kit on some white cardstock with Versamark Watermark Ink, then embossed it with extra fine black embossing powder. I then took another white cardstock and inked just the word “Star” on the stamp in the kit. After stamping “Star,” I used alphabet peg stamps from Hero Arts to stamp “BIRTHDAY.” I fussy cut out the sentiments.

It was time to put the card together! I glued the glitter star onto the card panel. Using foam squares, I added the sentiments. All that was left was placing the panel on a 4.25 x 5.5 red card base I made with the red cardstock in the kit. However, I decided to place a sentiment inside which I just stamped with StayzOn black along with one of the star stamps overtop. 

That was it for this easy project. I’m hoping my bestie enjoys it.

  

Big Art Quest #2

I know these are out of order. I needed to get some supplies to do the mini quest and wanted to post them together here. 

For the Quest we were to make a custom color chart. I used Daler-Rowney Acrylic Paints. I didn’t use every color that came in the set, just the ones that I felt I would use a lot.

For the mini quest “All of the Rainbow” we were to use as many colors as possible and paint an abstract heart. I didn’t mix many colors. I wanted to feature my favorite paint color which is a tint of Ultramarine Blue. I felt the pure colors would bring the light color out better. I think it was a success. I purchased some Acrylic 246lb paper, but while painting little pieces of the paper kept coming up. I think I’ll gesso with the paper when doing the paintings to prevent that.

Big Art Quest #4

Painting a self portrait! I was pretty nervous. I mean..I’m pretty new to this painting thing! I didn’t let it stop me!

 I think it came out okay. I have no knowledge of skin tone paint blending. 

I was supposed to paint this on acrylic paper, but I ran out so I used an 8×10 canvas.

Pair of Pears

My first quest for the Big Art Quest. A still life painting of pears. 

This is before starting any lessons. This will be redone at the end of the quest! We were also to write what we feel about ourselves as an artist on the back, but I’ll post it here. “As an artist I am very novice but I have an artistic eye.”

Big Art Quest

I have begun the Big Art Quest with Cinnamon Cooney at www.theartsherpa.com. This is for absolute beginners in acrylics. It is a year long quest. I’m enjoying learning and creating. She has live tutorials on YouTube. The atmosphere is energetic and positive. I’ll be posting projects I complete throughout this learning journey!

Hope Swing (my version)

I followed along with a YouTube painting tutorial by Cinnamon Cooney aka the Art Sherpa. Hope Song is the name of her painting.

 I had some issues with the paints, but I think it is because they are not good quality. I had to go over the silhouette 5 times to cover the under painting. But all in all I feel it come out good.

Coastal Wine

This is only my second acrylic painting ever. I’m still a greenhorn at painting in any media. I’m hoping I get better as time goes along. Constructive criticism will be appreciated!
